How to Increase Blog Traffic with Blog Carnivals

So you're writing the world's best blog and no one is reading it? Blog carnivals are an easy and effective way to get visitors to your blog.

Instructions

1. First a little bit about what a blog carnival is. A blog carnival is a collection of links around a single topic. It is usually hosted on a single blog and consists of links that other bloggers have submitted that fall within the topic.

2. To participate in a blog carnival, first visit BlogCarnival.com and click on 'Blog Carnival Index' in the upper right hand corner.

3. Select a category in the drop down box. Categories range from 'Art & Entertainment' to 'Writing' and everything in between.

4. Choose a carnival from the list that has a 'Next Edition' date. This indicates that it is an active carnival.

5. Select a carnival from the list and click on it. Then click on the orange 'Submit Your Blog Article to This Carnival' box. This takes you to a submission form.

6. In the box on the submission form, enter the permalink url to your blog article. Make sure the link is to the article itself and not a link to your blog homepage. You will also be asked to enter your name, email address, and a security code from the submission page.

7. You should receive a confirmation email when your article is submitted. You will also receive an email from the host when the carnival is posted on his or her blog.

8. Once the carnival is live, link to it on your blog. Talk about what article you submitted and maybe note a few other favorites from the carnival. This is all about generating traffic for other bloggers so do the host and other submitters a favor and send a little link love their way.

9. Enjoy the increased traffic bump you get from the carnival!

• If you're not familiar with blog carnivals, take some time exploring some at blogcarnival.com.
• You can submit articles to as many carnivals as you like.
• You can also sign up to be a host of some carnivals, which will generate a lot of traffic for your blog as well. Some of the established carnivals, however, have a waiting list for hosts.
