Step 1
In the romance novels, journey of romance commences from acquaintance, then to friendship and intimacy. From there it crosses the stations of love and lust, and reaches the destination of sex to copulate and propagate.

Step 2
In the odyssey of romance, in every individual couple, the types of conveyance, tracks and accesses, speed differ. For the few fortunate the road is smooth. But in majority of the cases it is bumpy; full of pitfalls, pebbles and stones, brooks and rivers. They face diversions, broken bridges and sometime blind alleys or even dead ends. In this crowd some go astray.

Step 3
Every romance novel makes the reader curious to know which zigzag path the lovers follow to reach the destination. The reader's life too is a part of some or other odyssey and hence the curiosity. He tries to correlate the events with his own peregrination; which in itself is a ride, drive or a trek. He gets immersed in it. If he finds slightest resemblance, he appreciates or blames the stance of the characters of the novel. Consequently the chain of events narrated in it does not allow him to keep the book down.
Generally the central theme of any romance novel rotates around rich or poor, sinner or saint, all craving for passionate love. It sways between the first tentative 'hello' to the last passionate 'good bye' or other way round. It starts with handshake or lip to lip kiss which are probably most accepted gestures in our society. But it is not the morsel of a cake to be fed from hand to lip. It is the point of commencement of the romance novels.
The males and females, who later shall transform to be the lovers, are the main castings of the story. They put their mind and body, then the soul in their roles. Had the tussle been so smooth, readers might discard the novel? But other friends come to rescue. They are ego, jealousy, anger, temptations and like. Peaks and troughs of the vicissitudes bind the readers.
The authors of romance novels have been entertaining, guiding the populace since time immemorial. We owe salute to them.
