Step 1
Its important to determine if homeschooling is right for your child. It is also important to identify the reasons for homeschooling. Do you have the time to commit to a homeschooling program? Are you qualified to teach your child at home? (Qualified meaning teaching credentials/experience)

Step 2
Homeschooling is legal in all 50 states. However homeschooling laws vary in different states. There are 3 categories for homeschooling laws: home education laws, private school laws, and equivalency laws. To find out more information about these laws is to contact your states education agency.

Step 3
Remember if you and your child ever make the decision to return to school credits start counting for graduation beginning in the 9th grade. Some homeschooling credits may not transfer to all schools. It is important that you know the specific laws in your state regarding credits obtained from homeschooling.

Step 4
If your child decides to attend college and you are homeschooling your child in high school it is important that you contact the colleges/universities that your child is interested in to find out their policy on homeschooled credits. Many homeschooled students enroll in community colleges or 2 year colleges and are required to enroll in remedial courses, before transferring to 4 year universities.
