How to Clean with Baking Soda. Green, Natural, and Cheap.

Baking soda is a fantastic cleaner and deodorizer. It's also natural, non-toxic and cheap.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Prevent Trash Odor ~ Sprinkle Baking soda in the bottom of your trash can. You may also wish to spinkle soda from time to time in the trash bag itself.

  2. Step 2

    Clean Crocs and Rubber Sandals ~ Soak in a mixture of baking soda and water, then scrub with a brush. (See resources below for full instructions.)

  3. Step 3

    Remove Stuck Food from Dishes ~ Soak your stubborn dishes in a sink of hot water, dish soap, and 2 tablespoons of Baking Soda. (See resources for full instructions).

  4. Step 4

    Clean Floor Scuffs ~ Baking soda is safe on most linoleum flooring. Wet the scuff mark. Sprinkle with Baking soda and scrub with a damp cloth.

  5. Step 5

    Deodorize Carpets ~ Sprinkle carpeting with baking soda. Leave for 30 minutes. Vacuum carpeting.

  6. Step 6

    Polish Silver ~ Mix baking soda and water to form a stiff gel. Apply to silver and polish with a soft rag.

  7. Step 7

    Clean Melted Plastic from Hard Surfaces ~ Wet the area of the melted plastic. Sprinkle with baking soda. Scrub with cloth for one minute. Leave for 10 minutes. Continue scrubbing.

  8. Step 8

    Deodorize Refrigerator ~ Pull top halfway off the baking soda box. Set in the rear of any shelf in your refrigerator.

  9. Step 9

    Clean Plastic Toys ~ Baking soda is non-toxic so it is safe for cleaning children's toys. However, it will not disinfect them. To clean, mix warm water with baking soda.

  10. Step 10

    Clean Mildew from Plastic ~ Mix baking soda with warm water. Soak mildewed item in the mixture. Then sprinkle wet, mildewed areas with baking soda and scrub.

  11. Step 11

    Deodorize Shoes ~ Sprinkle a tablespoon of baking soda in each shoe. Shake the shoe gently to coat the baking soda. Leave overnight. In the morning, shake shoes upside down to remove excess baking soda. ***Be careful not to inhale baking soda. Use proper ventilation.***

  12. Step 12

    Deodorize Machine Washable Shoes ~ If your shoes are machine washable, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the usual amount of detergent and water. Allow the shoes to soak for 30 minutes. Wash as instructed.

  13. Step 13

    Remove Onion & Garlic Odors ~ In fabric, wash as directed, but add 2 tablespoons of baking soda to the wash load. HANDS ~ wet hands, sprinkle generously with baking soda, scrub thoroughly, rinse.

  14. Step 14

    Bathroom Surfaces ~ Baking soda is a non-abrasive cleaner and effective on most hard bathroom surfaces, including the tub, sink, floor, toilet.

  15. Step 15

    Speed Draining ~ Baking soda will speed a slow sink or drain.

  16. Step 16

    Prevent Toilet Bowl Marks ~ Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of baking soda around the inside of your clean toilet bowl every night. It give a teflon-like coating to the bowl and will also cut back on odors and molding.

  17. Step 17

    Deodorize Your Washer Machine ~ Add 1 cup of baking soda as the start of a hot load of whites.

  18. Step 18

    Clean Sink Stains ~ Combine baking soda with the just enough water to form a paste. Apply paste to stain and scrub with a rag. This will not damage your sink.

  19. Step 19

    Clean Car Mildew ~ Allow most moisture to dry from mildewed area. Apply sufficient baking soda directly to the mildewed area. Allow to sit for 24 hours, then vacuum excess baking soda.

Tips & Warnings
  • Baking Soda does not disinfect.
  • Baking Soda is effective in preventing and stopping mold and mildew.
