For anniversary number 14, the traditional list advises giving a gift of ivory; the contemporary gift list suggests gold jewelry.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gift Ribbons
  • Cufflinks
  • Anniversary Greeting Cards
  • Gift Cards
  • Flowers
  • Wrapping Paper
  • Chardonnay
  • Gold Chains
  • Gold Earrings
  • Jewelry
  • Gold Tasting Spoons
  • Credit Cards And Loans
  • Gift Certificates
  1. Step 1

Consider your partner. Sentimentalists may prefer gifts that don't stray from tradition, while modern thinkers and style lovers may prefer a contemporary present. You know best.

  2. Step 2

Keep both lists in mind, and also consider a modern interpretation of a traditional 14th-anniversary gift.

  3. Step 3

Interpret the suggestions with creativity. Instead of ivory, for example, think scrimshaw made from ivory-like materials, which look amazingly real.

  4. Step 4

If you opt for gold jewelry, the modern 14th-anniversary gift, consider cufflinks for him and earrings for her. One gift for both could be gold-colored brass candlesticks, Krugerrands or having their wedding rings engraved.

  5. Step 5

    Enclose a gift card.

  6. Step 6

    Wrap the gift with care.

  7. Step 7

Bring the gift to the anniversary party if there is one.

Tips & Warnings
  • A nice alternative to ivory might be carvings, sculpture, paintings or jewelry that honor elephants and walruses.
  • Remember that elephants are on the endangered list, and ivory is illegal in many places. The traditional gift list was created 100 years ago, when times were different.

on 3/6/2006 Instead of elephant ivory, I bought a mammoth ivory carving. We are both into fossils, so this is very appropriate and completely legal. There are lots of mammoth ivory items on eBay, mine was only $20. Remember, ivory is also a color.
