Learn how to prioritize your activities. Decide which activities are most important and put forth the required effort to be successful in these important areas. Set time limits for doing housework, spending time with family, and completing school or work related projects and reward yourself once you’ve successfully completed them.

    • 2

Know how to pace yourself. You don’t want to feel overworked and stressed out by taking on too many activities at once. Set a pace that’s comfortable for you and allows you enough time to work or engage in your various activities. Take a break from your activity every hour or so to give your mind time to rest before resuming.

    • 3

Keep a personal planner or organizer handy so you can keep track of scheduled appointments, exams, important dates, or other events. You can purchase an electronic organizer or a standard planner with a calendar and space for writing things down. Staying organized will help you to maintain a balance in your different activities and help you to keep up with what needs to be done.

    • 4

Stay disciplined and focused on the activity at hand. If you’re at your job, focus on giving a good performance and completing any necessary tasks. Regarding school, be sure you set a time for you to study and do required assignments and homework. With other activities such as sports, hobbies, and exercise, be consistent and aim to do your best. When at home with your family, focus on each other and spend time together. Each activity will require a certain amount of discipline in order to stay on track.

    • 5

Keep activities separate. While at work, do things relevant to your job. Don’t try to do schoolwork while you’re working unless you have extra time on a scheduled break. Try not to bring work-related issues into the classroom. Home-related responsibilities can be broken up and shared among family members. Each family member can be assigned certain chores that they do so that the work doesn’t overwhelm one person. Learn how to maintain a set time and order for everything and keep your activities in their proper place.

Take time for yourself to relax and clear your mind. Having personal time, where you don’t have to focus on any particular activity, is important. You are freed up from worrying about deadlines, exams, practice, or stresses from home or work. There has to be a balance between being active and taking some free time for yourself. Use up some of your vacation days at work, plan a vacation during your breaks from school, or go on outing and trips with your family.
