Boasting a beautiful coastline and a rich history of Portuguese culture, Brazil, (or Brasil,) is a great place to visit for tourists and ghost hunters alike. Having had real emperors well into the late 1800s, this young democracy has had its share of chaos and political upheaval--enough to leave some restless spirits through out the country. If you are going to Carnival or making a religious pilgrimage to the famous Christ the Redeemer statue, bring your ghostbusting equipment and check out the paranormal aspects of this terrific country.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Transportation to and around Brazil
  • Digital camera
  • Digital recorder
  • Local guide
Step1
Start your ghostly encounters on the road from Petropolis to Rio de Janeiro. This is one of those roads where the spirit of a past fatal car crash continues to search for help from strangers. Drivers report pulling over to help a blonde woman who points them down a hill to the site of a crash. Witnesses say they see the crash site, then turn to look back at the woman and both she and the accident scene are gone. Do some EVP work here along the road to see what you might get.
Step2
Try to get a nighttime visit pass to the Brasillia City Hall. It is said that the original city hall burned down, but once was used as a temporary morgue. It seems the land has not forgotten its past, as even the new building plays host to otherworldly noises and unexplainable incidents like moving objects and poltergeist activity. Talk to the security guards there to hear personal stories.
Step3
Take a tour of the Museum of the Republic in Rio de Janeiro. Here, in the gardens, visitors have reported seeing the ghost of Brazilian Emperor Pedro I. Again, talk to the docents and guards to hear their personal encounters with the Emperor and other ghostly visitors to this 1800s historical building.
Step4
Spend the night at The Dream Beach in Itanhaem. Beachcombers here describe evening voices and screams, and the feeling as though someone is breathing hard in their faces while lying on the sand. Legend has it that a honeymooning couple drowned here while climbing on the rocks, and some say their decomposing apparitions are still seen walking out of the water together on moonlit nights.
