Instructions

    • 1

Go to the flea market and pick up an old flat wooden picture frame--or you can go to a local home department store and pick up an unfinished wooden picture frame. The height and width of the frame is entirely up to you. The frame itself should be at least two inches wide all around the picture surface. Purchase the acrylic paint, brushes and flec stone textured spray paint from a local craft store. Also pick up the 1/4 in thick piece of plywood squares for the corners of the picture frame.

    • 2

Cover the work area with the drop cloth. Remove the glass front and the backing and set them aside. Then lightly sand the wooden frame down with the sandpaper. Wipe away any residue from the sanding.

    • 3

Cut a 2-inch square piece out of the plywood. You will need four pieces of 2-inch squares. Lightly sand these four corner pieces, wipe down with a clean cloth and dispose of the sand residue. These are the accents for the corners of the picture frame.

    • 4

Paint the undercoating with the acrylic paint. Repeat this procedure for the four corners of plywood that you cut. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly.

    • 5

Allow the undercoating to completely dry. Spray the entire front and sides of the picture frame with one shade of the stone textured paint. Do the front first and allow it to dry. After it has dried, then turn the frame over and do the back of the picture frame. Allow this to dry.

    • 6

Spray the four corner pieces with a darker color stone textured paint. Allow the four corner pieces to dry. Make sure that you have painted both the front and back of the pieces.

    • 7

After the frame and the four corner pieces have dried completely, glue one of the corner pieces to the corner of the frame (use the glue gun for this). Hold the piece into place with your fingers and press until it is secure. Repeat this procedure for each of the four corners.

    • 8

Your picture frame is now ready to be displayed. Replace the glass into the frame, put your picture in and replace the backing.

Tips & Warnings

  • The textured appearance will need minor cleaning from time to time, just dust it off with a clean cloth.

  • Work in well ventilated areas and make sure you are wearing gloves.
