1. Learn about the history of Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg is located in the central hills of Texas. The town recognizes its German heritage with an array of German bakeries and restaurants. Fredericksburg was founded by German settlers from Braunfels in 1846. The town is rooted in agriculture and tourism has helped its economy greatly. Fredericksburg is also known as the “city of steeples” due to its large list of religious denominations and houses of worship.

2. Experience festival life in Fredericksburg. Festivals are celebrated throughout the year in Fredericksburg. In May, experience the Fredericksburg Crawfish Festival. At the end of July, you can celebrate a Night in Old Fredericksburg. In October, plan on attending the Oktoberfest. From the end of November through January 1st, take in the holiday spirit at the Texas Hill Country Regional Christmas Lighting Trail. You can buy tickets online or at the events.

3. Visit the local zoo. The Exotic Resort Zoo is the local zoo in the town of Fredericksburg. It has over 500 animals and some petting zoos and there are also daily safari tours.

4. Take a tour of the National Pacific Museum of War. The National Pacific Museum of War used to be called the Admiral Nimitz Museum. It is the only institution in the continental United States to tell the story of the Pacific Theater battles in World War II exclusively. It includes the Plaza of Presidents, Admiral Nimitz Museum, Japanese Garden of Peace, Center for Pacific War Studies, George Bush Gallery and the Pacific Combat Zone.

5. Hike through Enchanted Rock State Park. There are many hiking trails you can enjoy in Enchanted Rock State Park. When you hike up to the top of the summit, which isn’t too strenuous, you have a beautiful view of the countryside. All around you are several large domes of pinkish colored granite, called Enchanted Rock. You can also rock climb at the Enchanted Rock Fissure.
