The COBRA team is a group of six super soldiers that are responsible for the majority of boss battles in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The group consists of The Boss, The Pain, The Fear, The End, The Fury and The Sorrow. Each character has its own fighting style and setup, and battles with them can range from short and easy to long and difficult. Bosses will always be more challenging the higher the difficulty level.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Playstation 2
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (or Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence)
  1. Step 1

Fall down into the cave after fighting with Ocelot; The Pain will appear after you have gone through the cave for a while. The Pain uses his hornets to both attack Snake and protect himself. His attacks can be dodged by diving underwater and evading the hornets. Throw grenades at him to make his shield break apart. When the hornets disappear from his body, shoot at him with your weapon, preferably the shotgun. After his health reaches the halfway point, the hornets will attack you to the point where they will stay in your body. If you are attacked by these hornets, you will need to extract them from your body with the knife. Continue attacking him with grenades and the shotgun until he dies.

  2. Step 2

Go to the Cure menu at the start of the battle with The Fear, remove the arrow and cure the poison. The Fear uses stealth camouflage and jumps from tree to tree while eventually attacking you head-on. Be quick with your weapon and shoot him. The weapon you choose is up to you; it merely depends on what you have available. When his stamina runs down, he will need to eat. This is the perfect time to attack him. Repeat this process until he is defeated.

  3. Step 3

Prepare yourself for a long battle when you encounter The End. The area in which you fight The End is extremely large, and your goal is to find him in the jungle. He hides in wait for you and will try to snipe you. Because of the nature of this fight, it could take 30 minutes to 2 hours to defeat him. You'll have to look carefully and listen for his voice. Using the thermal goggles will help, but be quick: He changes locations after you shoot him.

  4. Step 4

Follow the underground tunnel in Groznyj Grad to find The Fury. He is easier to defeat once you recognize his pattern of movement around the area. Use either the shotgun or rifle on him when he is open for attack. He uses flame attacks, which cause burn damage, so be prepared to roll out any fires you catch or heal burns. If he is far away, it is possible to shoot him with the sniper rifle. Follow this suggestion, and he should be finished quickly.

  5. Step 5

Follow the river after exiting the sewers and you will run into The Sorrow. Battling The Sorrow doesn't actually involve any fighting, but avoiding. You consistently avoid ghosts of enemies you have killed up to this point in the game, including bosses. The only attack The Sorrow actually has is a blue energy attack, which does no damage, but stops Snake. After you pass The Fury and reach the end, you will see a skeleton in the water. Touch it, and Snake will have all his health drained. After this happens, use the revival pill, and the "battle" is over.

  6. Step 6

Reach the end of the game to fight The Boss. There are only 10 minutes available in which to fight her, so speed is a necessary skill. Choose your camouflage and face paint at the start, to make it harder for her to find Snake. Find a hiding spot in the field and use the thermal goggles to try and find The Boss. Snipe at her from a distance, but be careful, as she will eventually find you. It is possible to do CQC attacks on her, but it is very difficult. Be careful when she finds you; she will shout something and then attack you head-on, possibly injuring Snake. It may take some tries to get used to her movements, but always be aware of the time frame.

Tips & Warnings
  • Another way to beat The End is by saving your game in battle, then restarting your PS2 and advancing the clock seven days. When you load up your game, The End will have died of old age.
