How to Visit Quebec, Canada

Quebec is the second most populated province in all of Canada and the largest in area in all of Canada. For these reasons, there are plenty of sights to see throughout Quebec. To say that you couldn't see even half of Quebec in one day is a large understatement. If you give yourself enough time, though, you can have the trip of a lifetime.

      Spend an entire day in Montreal. The beautiful city of Montreal is probably the most well-known city in Quebec to those of us from outside of the province. You can take a boat ride on the Lachine Canal, catch a Canadians hockey game or stay out all night at the various restaurants, bars and clubs which stay open until sunrise. Montreal is a must for anybody traveling to Quebec, especially if you have never been to the city before.

      Visit Quebec City. The capital of the province of Quebec, Quebec City is much different than Montreal. Try to plan your trip to Quebec City for late January so that you can go to the Winter Carnival. The Quebec Winter Carnival is the largest of its kind in the entire world. You can also visit religious shrines, such as the The Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine, see the waterfalls at Les-Sept Chutes or visit one of ten museums.

      Do some gabling at the Casino de Charlevoix. The Casino de Charlevoix, located roughly an hour and a half from Quebec City, is actually part of a resort. For this reason, gamers find this casino to give them a more personal experience. It also doesn't hurt that the Casino de Charlevoix is arguably the most aesthetically pleasing casino in all of Quebec. If gaming isn't enough for you, try any of the three restaurants or play a round at one of the best golf courses in all of Canada. All of this and more can be found at the Manoir Richelieu.

      Take in the city of Gatineau. Just as Quebec City is different than Montreal, Gatineau, found in western Quebec along the Ottawa River, is a different experience altogether. The best way to enjoy Gatineau is through one of the tourist packages offered to tourists. These packages include admission to shows and discounts at the Casino du Lac-Leamy, tickets to the Canada Science and Technology Museum and a city tour.

      Ride your bike along the famous Route Verte. This is the best way to see the many different aspects of Quebec as the Route Verte goes over 2,500 miles! The Route Verte is actually a group of different bike routes, allowing riders to choose what it is they wish to see on a trip. Depending on which route you choose, you can see natural parks, small towns and villages and plenty of different farms. You can also enjoy mountain biking through the Laurentides mountain range.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that most of Quebec is French-speaking. You should either brush up on your French or bring a pocket dictionary so that you do not get confused or irritated.
