1
Purchase a leather repair kit or leather patch and garment glue. Leather patches are available in multiple colors and textures. In order to get a good match, check the seam of your leather good(s) for excess pieces. Cut a swath from the leather sofa or other item and bring it to the store to match the color.
-
2
Place a piece of blank paper over the tear to trace its size. Draw a circle about an inch from the actual tear. This will be the pattern you will use to create a leather patch. You will need at least an inch on each side of the tear to prevent it from loosening over time.

3
Cut your pattern out and lie it over the leather patch. Carefully cut out the patch to match the size of the paper pattern you created. It is important to follow the pattern, so your patch is accurately sized. An over-sized patch can make it rather obvious that a repair has been made to your leather item.

4
Apply the patch. To do check to make sure the patch will cover the tear. Next, apply a small amount of glue around the entire back of the patch. Immediately, place this on the tear.

5
Let the patch dry and place a heavy, non-stick object over the hole.
