Keeping your eyeglasses clean will help you see better and prevent headaches.

Even though eyeglasses may appear unblemished to the naked eye, they need frequent cleaning throughout the day. Dust particles and general pollutants from the air around us build up on eyeglasses on a regular basis. Though these things may not always be noticeable, they still affect your vision. Keeping your eyeglasses properly cleaned will help you see better and help to prevent headaches that can be triggered by eye strain. Commercial eyeglass cleaners cost a variety of different prices, but they all contain the same basic ingredients. All you need is common household rubbing alcohol and water to make your own solution that will rival any store-bought brand. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Spray bottle with a pump spray nozzle that will hold 2.5 ounces (or more) of liquid
  • 1.5 oz. Rubbing alcohol
  • 1/2 oz. Water
  • Soft, non-abrasive cloth

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure the spray bottle is clean before you begin. Even if you have purchased the container new, take the time to wash it in hot, soapy water, and rinse it well.

    • 2

Add the rubbing alcohol and water to the bottle.

    • 3

Secure the pump spray nozzle securely to the bottle, and shake it well to mix the contents. Generally, rubbing alcohol and water will remain mixed together well. However, it will not hurt to shake the bottle prior to each use just to make sure the solution is mixed.

    • 4

Spray the front and back of each lens of your eyeglasses with the solution.

    • 5

Wipe your eyeglasses clean with the non-abrasive cloth.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use paper towels, napkins, or tissues to clean your eyeglasses. The fibers of these materials may scratch your lenses. Instead, choose something like a soft cotton handkerchief or a non-abrasive dusting cloth.
