How to Rent Handbags

Lusting after a designer bag but don't have the cash inside your current purse to pay for it? There's an easy solution--rent one. Tons of websites are popping up where you can rent a bag for a fraction of the cost of a single bag. With these tips, you can get that high fashion bag on your arm quickly.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Go online and find the website called Bag, Borrow or Steal. If you sign up at their website, you can rent a handbag for a fee. You will be charged each week until the bag is returned. You also have the option to buy the bags from their site should you decide you do not want to part with them. This site also rents out sunglasses and jewelry that are perfect for special occasions.
Step2
From Bags to Riches is another site that rents out designer bags, but does so by the month. They also sell bags up front at a discounted price.
Step3
If you want to get first shot at a new bag, you will have to purchase it upfront, but then always have the option to sell it at any time. With sites such as Craigslist and eBay, you will likely get a large portion of your purchase price back if you post the bag within the same season. All you have to do is purchase the bag you want and then post it for sale once you grow tired of it. With the cash you get back, you can repeat this process.
Step4
Another way of renting a bag is to coordinate an agreement to trade off with friends. If each of you buy one bag and then trade off monthly, you'll be getting the use of many different bags for the price of just one.
Step5
Dedicate certain bags for each season. If you store purses away and only use them during a certain time frame, it will feel as if you get a new bag each time you bring it out after a year away. If you treat yourself to just one or two purses a year, you can keep this rotation fresh.

Tips & Warnings

  • Outlet stores don't let you rent bags, but they do provide designer bags at a considerable discount. Many top designers, including Kate Spade and Coach, have outlets across the country.
  • If you find a great knock-off, you can get the designer feel for a fraction of the price.
  • Consider the cost of rental sites against what you pay per purse before fronting any money. If your purses of choice are fairly inexpensive, you may be able to get more for your money by just buying a few choice pieces.
  • Some rental sites may not have the exact bag you're looking for. Compromise may be necessary in terms of style.

on 8/14/2008 What I have learned is that if you want to rent a designer handbag, make sure it is expensive and top of the line. Burberry, Fendi, Prada and Vuitton are top of the line handbags that do not come cheap. These bags can cost over $500 or more, especially the leather styles. So you might be better to rent these brands.

Otherwise, just buy a few handbags like Coach, Vera Bradley or Dooney. www.DesignerPurseOutelts.com has some nice Ed Hardy, Juicy Couture and Baby Phat purses that are trendy and stylish within most budgets.
