How to Design a Travel Brochure

A brochure is a creative way to inform others about all aspects of travel: hotels, destinations, cruises, travel packages or any other travel-related subject. Travel brochures provide lots of helpful information to those planning to travel and to those wanting to reach the public with a travel-related service. The possibilities are endless when writing and designing a travel-themed brochure with Microsoft Publisher.

Instructions

  1. Use Brochure Templates in Microsoft Publisher

    • 1

Go to File and choose New once you’ve opened Publisher. A box will appear on the left side of the screen.

    • 2

Click the arrow next to Publications for Print. A list of types of publications will appear.

    • 3

Choose Brochures. Several brochure templates will be displayed.

    • 4

Select a brochure template that best fits your purpose or theme. You can customize fonts, colors and layouts later.

    • 5

Double click on the template and it will open on your screen. Choose whether you want a three- or four-panel brochure.

    • 6

Keep the style lighthearted and fun, but professional.

    • 7

Use lots of color. Nearly all travel topics are fun, so don’t be dull!

What to Include in a Travel Brochure

    • 8

Include lots of photographs and other graphics, especially if the brochure is focusing on a destination or hotel. A great selling point will be the photos.

    • 9

Keep text short and sweet. This obviously will depend on the exact theme of the brochure, but most likely a little text will go a long way in a travel brochure, especially if you include lots of photos.

    • 10

Make the cover very appealing. Use a large font that clearly tells the reader what the brochure is about and include an amazing photo.

    • 11

Continue the photos inside, but also include text. Tell the reader everything that he needs to know about the subject. Include the who, what, where, why and when pertaining to the subject.

    • 12

Use bulleted lists to make information easy to read. No one wants to read big blocks of text in a travel brochure. Break up information by using headings and subheadings. Provide contact information and a clear indication of what the reader should do next.

Tips & Warnings

  • Publisher will also let you create your own brochure from scratch, if one of the templates doesn’t work for you. That way you can make it look exactly how you like.
