How to Make a Macrame Soft Suede Belt
Fashion is always on the mind of women. We want to be trendy and unique in our choices of apparel and we really never like to wear the same thing that another woman is wearing. We like to be casual yet classy. When we wear our jeans we like to dress them up a bit by adding a soft western belt. A soft suede macrame belt might just be the answer, and the best way to get on is to make it yourself. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 24 feet Brown suede lacing approximately 3/8 inch wide
- 16 feet Tan suede lacing approximately 1/8 inch wide
- Tape measure
- T pins
- Knotting board (hard cardboard will do)

Cut three pieces of brown lacing each measuring eight feet long. Cut two pieces of tan leather lacing eight feet long.

Hold the five strands together, find the mid point and tie an overhand knot using all five strands. An overhand knot is just the basic knot that you use to tie your shoes--make a loop, bring the end of the cord behind the look and out through the loop then pull it tight

Use a T pin to anchor the overhand knot to the knotting board. Arrange the strands--the three brown strands will be in the center and the two tan strands will be on the outside.

Pick up the tan strand on the left and combine it with the two brown ones to the right. Tie one square knot--a square knot is a secure non slipping knot that is made over the central core. Pass the right hand cord over the core cords and under the left hand cord, leaving a little loop on the right, then pass the left hand cord under the core cords and up through the loop. Pull the cords to tighten the first half of the knot. Then pass the left hand cord over the core cords and under the right hand cord, leaving a little loop on the left, then pass the right hand cord under the core cords and up through the loop. Pull the cords to tighten and finish the knot.

Lay the tan lace to the side. Tie one square knot with the three brown cords. Pull the knot up to the and just below the first knot you tied.

Combine the tan cord on the right with the two brown cords and tie one square knot. Then tie one square knot with the three brown cords. Pull the knot up to and just below the knot you just tied. Do this procedure for six times.

Use the tan laces as knotting strands--tie three square knots around the brown laces. Pull the last knot snug .

Remove the T-pin from the overhand knot and untie the knot. Re anchor the belt to the board and repeat the above mentioned procedures for the second half of the belt. Repeat the design sequence.

Finish off each strand of your belt with a coil knot--a coil knot is similar to an overhand knot and adds a decorative accent to the loose ends. Make a large overhand knot--before you close that knot take one cord end and wrap it four times around the looped strand and then pull the knot firmly into place.

Tips & Warnings
Although the belt may seem difficult to make it isn’t once you get the hang of braiding and knotting the material. It will last a long time and will be an envy to your friends.
