Select A Concealed Firearm

You want a gun. You’ve decided the world would be a whole lot safer, or perhaps you need protection on the job, and you’ve come to the conclusion that a concealed firearm is the thing for you. Rather than running out to purchase the first gun that happens to fit in your pocket, you can select a concealed firearm by following some logical steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Figure out where you will conceal this firearm. If you are usually clad in strapless sundresses, a body holster is not going to work for you. You’ll want to get a handbag sufficient enough to carry it. People who wear suits have more places to conceal the weapon. Also pay attention to your body type. If you are small boned, a large, concealed handgun will not really be concealed.

    • 2

Decide how much power you want. The smallest of guns, those that fit in your pocket or purse, are usually not powerful enough to do more than nick someone and only if they are in very close range. The best they may do is momentarily pause an attacker so you have time to run. If you want your assailant to go down for the count, pick something larger, which also means you’ll want to go with a holster or conceal the firearm in a place other than a teeny pocket.

Gauge how much gun experience you have or are willing to expend. Revolvers are powerful and work well, but you must become adept at reloading them quickly. Automatic medium to large guns are probably the easiest and most accurate to use, but require a lot of training to hit the mark consistently.

    • 4

Be comfortable with the gun. Don’t go for something just because it looks cool if it is too ungainly for you to use. Likewise, don’t pick a “cute” gun because it fits in your purse but is difficult to operate. The gun should fit firmly and feel solid in your palm. You should also be able to operate in either hand.

    • 5

Get the holster, handbag or other accoutrement in which you are going to conceal the weapon. Most guns have holsters made for them specifically for the best fit. Also make sure it is the best fit on your body so it is not pinching, scraping or digging into your armpit or belly. Make sure whatever the place, it is easy for you to get to and use your concealed firearm.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always make sure you get the proper license to carry the concealed firearm or you may one day find yourself, unarmed, in jail.

  • Keep guns away from children.

  • Part of the point of a concealed firearm is that it’s concealed. Do not brag to everyone you meet on the street that you are carrying a gun.

  • Do not buy the first gun you see. Do your research, practice shooting with each model and make sure you are happy with the overall performance and ease of the weapon. Take your time. This is an investment that could save your life.

  • Do not take the gun into places where they are prohibited or you know you will not need it. This includes national forests, some private establishments, police stations unless you are an officer and most likely your daughter’s wedding unless you really hate the groom.
