How to Compare Cancer Insurance
You can buy a number of different cancer insurance policies today. Not all of them agree on terms and conditions, the amount of protection or coverage provided or the cost for the coverage. Here's how to compare various types of cancer insurance and determine the best policy for your situation.

1
Look into your family history. If there are specific types of cancer that seem to recur in your family, it is a good idea to look for policies that offer more protection for those particular types of cancer.
-
2
Investigate the reputation of the insurance company offering the policy. Be on the lookout for such negative items as unresolved issues filed with the Better Business Bureau or reports of slow payment on claims by persons who took out the policies in the past. While the coverage may appear to be excellent, it will be of no use if the provider has a pattern of not paying claims.

3
Consider the type of compensation offered. Some cancer insurance policies are very straightforward and will pay the insured party a fixed amount for every day spent in the hospital as a result of the discovery and treatment of cancer. Others will also partially cover the costs of office visits to a doctor, post-treatment rehabilitation, and other related expenses. Make sure you know what type of direct and indirect medical expenses are covered under the terms of the each policy you consider.
-
4
Compare deductibles. When the cancer policies you are considering cover a wide range of medical treatments and therapies, there is often a deductible to be met. Look at the coverage in each and make sure you know what is fully covered before or after a deductible is met, and see how that stacks up with similar policies.
-
5
Read the terms and conditions thoroughly. Hidden exemptions may be found that would render the coverage ineffectual under certain circumstances. Ask questions about anything you do not understand.
-
6
Evaluate the premium. The monthly cost of maintaining the cancer policy must fit into your budget without causing any major problems. This means you may have to settle for less than the benefits you want in order to stay within budget. But always choose the policy that will provide the best coverage for what you can afford.

Tips & Warnings
Choose a policy that fits your needs. What is right for you may be different than what is right for friends, relatives, or acquaintances. Keep in mind you are purchasing insurance for your peace of mind, not to meet the requirements of another person.
Do not allow yourself to be coerced into signing up for a cancer policy without thoroughly exploring your options. If a salesperson attempts to use scare tactics to get you to take out the policy today, see that as a sign that you need to seek opportunities elsewhere.
