Customers are always looking for a great bargain. Being able to find a product online and then doing some comparison shopping is extremely convenient for many Internet users. Setting up a website for customers to make purchases will help your business reach various locations without added cost. As long as your customer has an Internet connection and a credit card to make the purchase, the website will cause your profits to grow. However, some customers would rather make a purchase over the phone instead of inputting their sensitive financial information online. With a few simple suggestions, you'll soon learn how to accept credit cards by phone.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Business
  • Customers
  • Contact phone number
  • Internet
  • Paypal business account
  • Paypal Virtual terminal system
  1. Step 1

Sign up for a Paypal business account. Enter the required information, such as your business name, address and contact number. After doing this, your Paypal account will be established and ready to receive payments. As a Paypal business user, you'll be able to apply for services that allow your customers to make payments to you over the phone instead of only the Internet. Business account users have multiple benefits and tools within their reach with this sort of Paypal account.

  2. Step 2

Apply for Paypal's Virtual Terminal System. You won't have to pay a setup fee, cancellation fee or purchase additional equipment. Business users that are approved for this payment system will not be locked into a long term contract either. If for some reason you feel this is not the best choice for your business, then cancel without any cancellation fee. Within a few business days, your application will be looked over and you'll be notified of a decision.

  3. Step 3

Enter the order details of your customers into Virtual Terminal when they phone it in. The web interface will allow you to place in the net amount, shipping fee and tax rate to get a total price for the order. After the total has been calculated, input the customer's credit card type, credit card number and the expiration date. Doing this should only take a few seconds to complete.

  4. Step 4

Input the customer's shipping information into the available areas. The Virtual Terminal will perform an address verification with the entered information. It's best to get the registered billing address associated with the credit card. Not doing this will cause the transaction to fail and the customer will not be able to successfully complete their phone order. The Virtual Terminal will also use this same information to print a convenient shipping label for your without having to perform extra steps.

  5. Step 5

Preview the customer's order information by selecting the “review transaction” button. This will give you the chance to verify the order details, pricing, and make any necessary connections. Once you are confident that you've entered the correct information, then select the "submit" button to fully finish the sales order.
