Make Finger Paint with Cornstarch
-
1
Gather all the supplies and materials you need. This will not only save you time, but also allow you to focus on your kids and the project.
-
2
Pour two cups of the water into the saucepan. Place the pan on the stove, over high heat and bring the water to a full boil.
-
-
3
Place the cornstarch into the mixing bowl. Stir in the remaining cup of water. Mix until the cornstarch has completely dissolved in the water.
-
4
Take the pan of boiling water from the stove. Stir the mixture of cornstarch and water into the pan, taking care not to splatter any on yourself or your kids. Return the saucepan to the burner.
-
5
Keep stirring the cornstarch and water constantly, and let it come to a boil once more. Let it boil for about one minute, until it is thick and clear.
-
6
Turn off the burner and allow the heated mixture to begin to cool down. Once it reaches a warm, bearable temperature, pour the cornstarch solution into separate bowls.
-
7
Add your choice of food coloring to each container. You can use a single color for each container, or you may mix more than one food color to create unique color or shade all your own. Let your child or children gently stir in the paints until all the color is thoroughly mixed into the solution.

Get creative, if you like, and further embellish the paint by stirring in extra fine glitter. Stir the glycerin into the paint to make it shiny. You are now ready to use your finger paint.

Tips & Warnings
Glycerin is available at most drugstores and pharmacies.
Take care not to over-cook the mixture, as this would make it too thick.
