Instructions

Opening the mouth of a snapdragon

This step must be done privately and then you should practice in private before trying it out on kids. Choose one of the blossoms that is not at the top, so that the flower is a kid level. Approach the flower from either the top or bottom, as in the picture. Grasp the back of the flower right next to the green stem and pinch your fingers gently together; the "mouth" should open. If it doesn't, adjust your grasp slightly forward or backward until the mouth opens. Releasing your grasp closes the mouth.

Practice opening and closing the mouth; if you still have difficulty, open the mouth with your other hand's fingers that helps you see where it should be opening. Practice, practice, practice.

      Mouth closed

Now you're ready. Call the kids, and make the flower say hello. Depending on the age of the child, you might find them asking the flower questions.

      Mouth open

Be prepared as you will never be able to walk through a greenhouse with your kids again without putting on a show.

What a wonderful to get children interested in gardening. I will have to try that with my daughter. She loves flowers and is quite dramatic. I can't wait to see her puppet shows.
