Motorcycle rides can be a fun and relaxing way to spend the day with friends and family. Riding in a group can be a real adventure. Whether you are planning a ride for a small group of friends or a larger group as part of an organization or charity, a simple bit of planning will insure you a wonderful, safe ride.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Maps
  • A Computer (for print outs)
  1. Step 1

Contact all of your friends that ride motorcycles and chose a date and time for the ride. Once you find a date that suits everyone you can start on the rest of the plans.

  2. Step 2

Choose a starting place to meet at that everyone is familiar with. You don't want anyone lost right from the beginning. Decide on a route you want to ride, writing down the starting points and stopping points. It's best to bring the ride back in a circle, so people are back in familiar territory when the ride ends.

  3. Step 3

Go ride this route in advance of the planned ride. Make a note of gas stations along the way, and plan which ones you will stop at for fill-ups and restroom breaks. Note any attractions that someone might want to stop at. Pick a restaurant that is about the halfway point of your ride. Talk to the restaurant manager and let them know how many will be stopping in to eat, so that they can be prepared.

  4. Step 4

Write all of these plans up on your computer and print out as many copies as you will need to give to each rider. People like to have an idea of where they are going and what is going to happen. Someone may have to join the ride late, and they will know how to find you.

  5. Step 5

Arrive early on the day of the ride. Gather everyone together and go over the schedule of plans. Also go over some safety issues about riding in a group, such as riding in a staggered position and allowing no one to pass each other. Always keep the motorcycle behind you in your mirrors.

  6. Step 6

Appoint someone to be the lead motorcycle and the last motorcycle. Everyone else stays between these motorcycles. That way you know everyone is still with you. If anyone has to leave the group, make sure they have told the front or rear motorcyclist that they are leaving the ride early. Obey all safety and traffic rules and have a fun safe ride.
