The green movement has consumers searching for the “natural way” in all sorts of areas. By removing stains from garments that would otherwise have to be thrown out, we’re doing the most obvious kind of recycling, and, by using natural products, we’ll be even greener! Although there are many products on the market made from natural products and labeled green, the following steps can be taken by using natural items you probably already have in your kitchen cabinets.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Remove ink spots: Use rubbing alcohol. Pour it over the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing. You might also try using milk or rubbing the fabric with the cut side of a tomato.
Step2
Remove gum: Use ice cubes and rub them directly onto the gum. You might also try using plain white vinegar, preferably heated, or even some ordinary shampoo.
Step3
Remove sweat stains from baseball caps: Wash on the top rack of the dishwasher, but take out before the dry cycle.
Step4
Remove rust: Use lemon juice or a mixture of lemon juice and salt.
Step5
Remove wine and fruit stains (including berries and tomato sauce): Put portion of stained garment over a pot; pour boiling water over it. Repeat as many times as necessary.
Step6
Remove oil and fat stains: Rub in white chalk before putting the article into the washing machine. Or you might try rubbing corn flour in and letting that set for half an hour before you wash the garment.
Step7
Remove bloodstains: Soak in warm milk. You might also try putting one-half cup of salt into a large pot of cold water and submerging the item.
Step8
Remove mildew: Mix equal parts of vinegar and salt.
Step9
Remove scorch marks (from the iron): Use some grated onion.
Step10
Remove grease stains: Cover with a heavy layer of talcum powder. Let set for half an hour and then repeat as necessary.
Step11
Remove tea stains: Clean with a mixture of one tablespoon of Borax mixed into two cups of water.
Step12
Remove grass stains: Use denatured alcohol.
Step13
Remove marker stains: Spot clean with denatured alcohol and then wash with soap and water.
Step14
Remove lipstick stains: Use denatured alcohol before laundering.
