How to Give a Professional Facial
When you go to a licensed aesthetician for a facial, you put your face in the hands of a trained professional. Aestheticians are taught how to cleanse the skin thoroughly and encourage cell regeneration and collagen production that slows down with the aging process. The aesthetician's goal is to get the skin looking its best. With the help of special equipment, training and knowledge, the skin care specialist can easily attain the desired results. Things You'll Need
- A turban
- Warm water
- Facial cleanser
- A facial steamer
- Two sponges
- Toner
- Cold cream
- Appropriate mask
- Appropriate moisturizer
- A tissue

Wrap turban around head, making sure all hair is tucked under the turban.

Wet face with warm water.

Put a small amount of facial cleanser in hand and apply to face with fingertips of other hand. Gently massage cleanser on skin with fingers of both hands, using upward strokes and rinse face thoroughly.

Position facial steamer sixteen inches away from face, turn steamer on and wait for steam to come out. Make sure steam flow is pointed in the direction of the face and not too close to the face.

Apply cold cream to face and neck with fingers and do facial massage. Please note that licensed aestheticians have special training in facial massage. If you haven’t been trained to do facial massage, follow the steps given in a book on the subject. Always massage gently, and do not do facial massage for more than 10 minutes.

Turn facial steamer off and move it out of the way.

Wet sponge and remove cold cream from face. Rinse sponge and continue to cleanse face. After all traces of cold cream are gone, wet another clean sponge with toner, squeeze out excess and gently wipe face clean.

Apply appropriate mask and leave on according to instructions on mask’s container.

Remove mask with a clean sponge when instructed to, making sure all traces of mask are removed.

Apply toner to sponge, squeeze out excess toner and wipe face clean.

While face is still slightly damp, apply appropriate moisturizer.

Blot excess moisturizer with tissue.

Tips & Warnings
Masks are not all created equal. Choose one specific to your skin type.
If your skin is sensitive to artificial preservatives, you should use organic skin care products.
Do not use steam on your face if you have rosacea or asthma.
Always make sure steam is a good distance from your face to avoid burning skin.
Do not do facial massage on anyone with an acne condition, rosacea, or any other condition that may be a contraindication for facial massage.
