The first and most important step in achieving a beautiful eye with the use of eyeliner is to select the correct eyeliner. Get a liquid liner unless you are a skilled make-up professional. Most women have too much grief trying to get the perfect the line. Select an eyeliner pencil, preferably one with a smudging sponge at the end of it.For most women, the most effective colors are brown, black, or black brown. Although certain colored eyeliners can bring out the natural color of one’s eye--such as purple sets a brown eye--a natural color brings a classic look.

Now that you have chosen your eyeliner it’s time to get other materials; liquid eye make-up remover, cotton swabs and sponge eye shadow applicator. Each of these items is going to help you along in achieving that classic look. In case you make a mistake when applying your eyeliner, use a cotton swab and the liquid eye make-up remover to correct your mistake. The sponge eye shadow applicator, which can be found in any eye shadow box or bagged separately near cotton balls and other make-up applicators, is used for smudging your eyeliner line to give a more natural look.

Now that you have all your supplies it is time to begin the application process. Start with the top lid. First close the eye of the eye you want to line. Then with your index finger lightly pull at the end of your eyelid; doing this will make it easier to get an even line of eye liner giving you a more classic look. Next take your eyeliner pencil and begin to little lines across your eye right at the lash line. You don’t want to draw one big line. Doing so lends itself to making more mistakes. You want to draw little lines. Once you have done that it is time to blend the eyeliner together by taking either the sponge eye make-up applicator or using the sponge on the end of the eyeliner pencil. You want to run the sponge along the line your just drew until the lines are connected and the eyeliner color is blended into your lash line.

For the bottom lid you are only going to apply the eyeliner to the outside crease. You will want to draw a small line in the crease. Then take your smudging sponge and swoop out the small line across the bottom lid. For a classic look you really only want there to be color in the crease but your need to smudge the line across so that the line isn’t a stark line.
