Kids, toddlers especially, just love arts and crafts, from complex projects that require adult help to simple coloring with anything and on anything they can get their hands on. Buying paper to entertain your toddler might feel like a waste of money since they are not attached to their art, but kids don't need a fresh page for every drawing they do. In fact, used papers can be tons of fun.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • An old phone books
  • Coloring materials

Step1
Give coloring supplies to a toddler, and then bring out the phone book.
Step2
Start with a page from the white pages, and see what your toddler is interested in. Some may be interested in "writing" or coloring the words, while others will ignore the print altogether.
Step3
Encourage your toddler to use the pages in creative new ways, like coloring in a black and white ad.
Step4
Show your toddler how to turn the pages so that he or she can have a fresh new place to draw.
Step5
Teach your toddler how different coloring supplies work. Ink may run through to several pages (and can create neat designs on the lower pages), pencils may tear if a toddler is too rough, and crayons do neither, generally.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have different coloring supplies on hand for your child to experiment with.
  • Teach your toddler which phone book is his, and keep the one that you use out of sight.
