You may have wondered what it means to be punk. Or, maybe you were wanting to be punk and didn't know where to start to transform yourself. This article will go over what it means to be punk and how to go about becoming it.Punk is a life-style that centers around punk rock music. The punk culture is a culmination of a particular style of music, fashion, dance, art, film, literature and ideologies. Punk invites individuals to be involved in the community of other individualists and is a state of mind. They seem to have a chip on their shoulders but it is more about standing for the things they believe in and making a statement with their hair, bodies and attitudes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Change fashion. The fashion is about art; a statement of the message the wearer is trying to establish. Some of the common pieces of clothing that are punk are demin, leather, leopard print, strips, tartan, plaid and camoflage. T-shirts printed with snarky logos and band paraphernalia is a common uniform worn. Pants with many zippers or safety pins are also in order.

  2. Step 2

Get the proper shoes. Being punk is about staying away from the norm and fighting against the establishment. Name-brand shoes won’t work. Combat boots are a must. Women tend to wear men shoes but can also wear pumps, Mary-Janes and cowboy boots. The shoes is an extension of the statement and also identifies what type of punk you want to be.

  3. Step 3

Get your hair done. Punks hair is creatively styled. Spikes and mohawks are very popular. Plus, different vibrant and unusual colors are used if it compliments the visual art that makes up the entire appearance.Other hairstyles include 80’s hair, big hair, shaved hair and devil locks.

  4. Step 4

Get some piercings and tattoos. Like I previously said, being or dressing punk is a work of art. Tattoos and piercings helps this along.

  5. Step 5

Listen to and learn punk rock music. Since the style centers around the music genre, it is best to know and love the music. If you do not like punk rock music it would be useless to try to transform to the punk culture. Punk rock goes all the way back to the 60’s. There are so many different areas of punk that it is up to you to decide on what type of music you enjoy and what type of punk you want to be.

  6. Step 6

Find and hang out with other punk people. The best way to be ‘punk’ is to watch other people who are punk. You know what they say about like-minded people sticking together.

  7. Step 7

Go to punk concerts and clubs. This is another way to get involved in punk music and to also meet other punk people.

Tips & Warnings
  • Being punk means not caring what other people thinks.
  • Not participating in mainstream media goes along with being punk and the fight against the establishments. This means watching television and movies.
  • Being punk doesn't mean following other people who are punk; it is about being an individual.
