Rent a Private Jet

Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, renting a private jet can make air travel much more enjoyable. When you fly privately, you don't have to worry about long security lines, cramped seating or luggage requirements. Generally, you can be flown to your direct destination rather than the closest commercial airport. Renting a private jet is quite an expensive endeavor, so make sure you are financially prepared for the expenditure beforehand.

Instructions

    • 1

Establish your travel route. When you make a reservation, the company will need to know your flight plan. You should also know your travel dates.

    • 2

Decide on the type of jet you'd like to rent. Private jets come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Small, lightweight jets generally hold between four to six passengers in addition to the crew, whereas mid-sized jets can hold nine passengers. If you'll be traveling with a larger group, full-sized jets hold upwards of 12 passengers.

    • 3

Consider services you would like on your private jet flight. More luxurious lines offer such amenities as satellite plasma televisions, gourmet meals and even in-flight masseuses.

    • 4

Find a few private jet options in your departure area. In addition to standard business listings, you can find rental options from charter companies such as AirCharter Services, Luxury Air Jets or 24 7 Jets. You can also contact local airports regarding private jet companies that fly out of their facilities.

    • 5

Get price quotes from private jet companies in your departure area. You'll need to provide specifics on your destination, the size of your group and the amount of luggage you'll be bringing, as well as any amenities you wish to have in-flight. Most companies will offer you a quote free of charge.

    • 6

Be aware of costs related to the length of your trip. Many companies will require that you pay a per diem for the pilot. For example, if you will be in New York for five days, you'll need to pay a standard per-day cost for the time the pilot is in New York. Since he's waiting around until he flies you back, he's unable to pilot other jets in the interim.

    • 7

Compare prices between a few different companies. Rates can vary quite a bit from place to place so it's worth your while to shop around. You can sometimes get lucky with last-minute deals since the jet would be unused otherwise.

    • 8

Confirm that the private jet company you choose has an impeccable safety record. Contact Aviation Research Group (ARG/US) as they perform safety audits of charter companies. In addition, request to see the pilot's safety record as well as a copy of his pilot's license.

Tips & Warnings

  • The cost of renting a private jet will fluctuate according to market fuel rates.

  • The weather may alter your flight plans. Smaller planes are advised not to fly during tumultuous weather conditions.
