Just because you don't want to spend a lot of money on items like shaving gel doesn't mean you are limited to shaving your legs with soap and water or suffering from razor burned under arms. You can create your own soothing shave gel perfect for all of those sensitive places. Read on to learn how to make shave gel.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup baby shampoo
  • 3/4 cup distilled or mineral water
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. glycerin
  • Essential oil
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Lidded bottle, jar or similar container
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Spoon or spatula
  1. Step 1

Measure shampoo into mixing bowl. Add water one quarter cup at a time. If the mixture looks sufficiently watery after the second quarter cup, do not add the last quarter. Some shampoos have a higher water content and therefore will need less water added to create shave gel. Don't worry if you add too much water; you can simply add a bit more shampoo to even it out.

  2. Step 2

Add salt and glycerin into the mixing bowl. Use the spoon or spatula to mix the ingredients thoroughly.

  3. Step 3

Add several drops of essential oil and stir to distribute. Tea tree oil or peppermint or spearmint essential oils are good choices, due to their antiseptic qualities.

  4. Step 4

Stir the mixture to distribute the essential oil throughout the gel. If the scent is not as strong as you would prefer, simply add a few more drops and stir again.

  5. Step 5

Pour the mixture into the bottle or jar using a funnel if necessary. Let stand for at least one hour prior to using. To use, scoop gel out with your fingertips or pour out of the bottle and apply to skin before shaving.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have baby shampoo on hand you can also use an herbal shampoo.
  • Stay away from shampoos with any type of sodium in the ingredients as they will tend to dry out your skin.
