Instructions

  1. Prepare Meals During Passover

    • 1

Get rid of Chametz (fermented grain products) before Passover begins. Throw out any food products containing wheat, flour, oats, or other fermented grains to ensure your family doesn't accidentally eat anything not kosher during the festival.

    • 2

Purchase matzah and wine in advance. You’ll need a good supply of matzah (unleavened flat bread) and ceremonial wine to compliment your Passover meals.

    • 3

Put away cooking utensils used throughout the year or kosher them to meet the strict Passover kosher standards. Purchase new utensils and cooking vessels or kosher your old ones by boiling them in water or exposing them to an open flame.

    • 4

Kosher your oven by cleaning it thoroughly and heating it to its highest temperature. The self-cleaning feature on your oven will heat the oven sufficiently enough to make it kosher for Passover meals. Don’t use your oven for at least twenty-four hours prior to the Seder meal.

    • 5

Use only fresh fruits and vegetables during Passover or purchase food products containing a “Kosher Food Product” certification. Avoid canned or frozen fruits and vegetables unless they carry a “KFP” seal on the front of the packaging. Foods that don’t carry the “KFP” seal may have been processed using cooking vessels and utensils that don’t meet kosher standards.

    • 6

Keep the meals simple. Opt for easy kosher meals such as steak and potatoes, pot roast, stuffed cabbages, and roasted chicken for dinner and eat leftovers or cold cuts on matzah for lunch. Omelets and homemade hash browns are great choices for Passover breakfasts and fresh fruits make hearty and satisfying snacks. The Passover feast doesn’t have to consist of elaborate meal plans or special recipes in order to celebrate this thoughtful time of recollection!
