Dyeing your lacrosse stick can help you stand out from other players on the field. You can express your personality by choosing colors that are fun, whimsical or authoritative. Personalizing your lacrosse stick is a great way to show off your style and stand out from the crowd.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Powder or liquid dye
  • Aluminum disposable cooking tray
  • Hot water
  • Rubber gloves
  • Duct tape
  • Lighter
  • Dry cloth

How to Dye a Lacrosse Stick

Step1
Remove the head of the lacrosse stick. Determine which colors you want to dye your lacrosse stick. Powder or liquid dye is needed when you want to create a unique color. If dyeing your stick multiple colors, use duct tape to cover the areas that will be dyed a different color. To prevent colors from mixing, apply duct tape and use a lighter to singe the ends of the tape to create a sealed edge. Remove the netting if you don't want to dye it.
Step2
Purchase an aluminum cooking tray that is tall enough to completely submerge the head of the lacrosse stick. Fill the cooking tray with water and test it by placing the head inside. Add more water if necessary. Heat the water over the stove by placing the cooking tray over the burner. Water should reach its boiling point. Before removing the water, put on rubber gloves. Take the water off the burner and allow it to cool slightly.
Step3
Add dye powder or liquid. Allow the dye to mix with the water before submerging the stick. Place the head of your lacrosse stick into the hot water. Leave it in the water until the right shade of color has been achieved. Remove the lacrosse stick and place the head under cool tap water. This will wash off any excess dye.
Step4
Wipe the lacrosse stick with a dry cloth to prevent dripping. Cold water will prevent color from bleeding. If you taped certain areas with duct tape, you should remove the tape at this point.
Step5
Tape the areas of the stick that have been dyed before dyeing other parts of your stick. Use a lighter to singe the ends of the tape. Repeat the first four steps when using other colors to dye your lacrosse stick.

Tips & Warnings

  • Lighter shades of dye should be used first to prevent bleeding. Lighter shades can also be dyed over, but darker shades cannot.
  • Carefully read all instructions on the dye package before using.
  • Avoid getting dye on clothing, skin or in your eyes.
