How to Relieve Bee Stings

There's nothing worse during a day at the pool than when your child gets a bee sting. The screaming in pain is unbearable! If you act quickly, you can help ease the worst of it. With a little magic potion of water and baking soda or mud, your child will be back to normal in what will feel like a few long, agonizing minutes. In most cases, the child will return to the pool and resume playing happily. After you're home, make sure to check for swelling in the hours after a bee sting, in case an allergy to bees develops.

Instructions

  1. How to Relieve Bee Stings

    • 1

Put cool water on the area. Remove the stinger.

    • 2

Mix baking soda with water into a paste. Apply to the bee sting area, thickly. Let it dry on there. The paste will alleviate the pain.

    • 3

If you don't have baking soda, try mixing dirt and water to make thick mud. Put a glob of mud on the bee sting. It will help draw out the poison and the cool mud makes the pain ebb.

    • 4

Wrap ice in a dishcloth and hold it gently to the wounded area to numb the pain.

    • 5

Give the crying child a popsicle, and a long cuddling hug. Eating a popsicle while being held by a loving person always helps the tears.
