1. Visit large thrift stores in your area such as Goodwill and The Salvation Army. These chain second-hand stores always have furniture in stock, and you can often find recliners in their inventories. As with all thrift stores, their inventories vary greatly from week to week, depending on donations so visit often to catch a good deal on a nice recliner.

2. Search for smaller thrift stores in your area. Sites like The Thrift Shopper allow you to search for second-hand shops in your city. Such national directories can point you in the right direction. Call thrift stores before visiting as not all sell furniture.

3. Browse used recliners on your local Craigslist. The site caters to various areas of the country and features used furniture listings. You can often see photographs of the items for sale. If you like what you see in the photos, contact the seller to set up a time to view the recliner.

4. Go to garage sales. Yard sales and estate sales also often feature used furniture. You can usually get a good deal at such sales, and remember that you can always attempt to negotiate a better price with the seller.

5. Consider used recliners on eBay. You'll be better off buying used recliners locally as eBay features sellers all over the world. If you find a great deal on a recliner on eBay, consider shipping costs prior to buying the item.

6. Visit any furniture liquidation sales. They oftentimes sell floor models of recliners. Since these recliners have been used as floor models, they are used but they are usually still in very good condition.

• When shopping for used recliners locally, it's best to always bring cash as many sellers won't accept checks or credit cards. You should also have a truck, van or other means of transporting the recliner, should you purchase it.

• Never purchase a recliner without fully trying it. Sit in it and determine it is comfortable, with nothing out of place. Fully recline it to make sure it completely extends without issue.
