Instructions

    • 1

When you need blood, and lots of it, here's the recipe to use. Combine 2 cups of corn syrup, 1 cup of water, 10 tbsp.of flour and 10 tsp. of red food coloring. If the wound is supposed to be fresh, add a small amount of yellow food coloring until the mixture reaches the right color. If you want the blood to look like it came from a vein, add a little blue food coloring.

    • 2

A chocolate-based recipe creates darker blood that works well if the wounds are not supposed to be as fresh. Mix ½ cup of warm water, 1 tbsp. of cocoa powder, 3 to 4 tbsp. of corn syrup and ½ to 1 tsp. of red food coloring. Use it to make a bloody mess on the victim’s body and stain clothing and fabric with it.

If your haunted house or film includes a vampire, you may want to have him drink a nice, refreshing glass of blood. Because the other blood recipes are a little too thick to look good in a glass, you will want to make a thinner version made just for drinking. Combine ½ cup corn syrup, ½ cup grenadine syrup and 1 to 3 drops of red food coloring.

Sometimes you want lumps in your blood to simulate bits of flesh, muscle or brain. There are a number of food items you can use to make your fake blood chunky. Cherries, instant oatmeal, ground meat or fresh bread can help you achieve a realistic look. Pumpkin guts--that slimy stuff in the middle of a pumpkin--can be covered in blood to create fake brain matter.

Bloody intestines can be made by buying a pair of light-colored tights or pantyhose and stuffing them with cotton to the desired size. Saturate your intestines with lots of "blood" and be sure to coil them up for a more realistic look.

Burns can be simulated using a paper towel. Apply a layer of liquid latex on the part of the skin where you want the burn. Quickly place the paper towel on top. Remove the excess paper towel and paint on fake blood or red, blue or black dye with a sponge. Build up the scar levels for an even gorier look.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are a number of foods you can add to fake blood to thicken it, including honey, peanut butter and chocolate syrup. Milk makes a good thinner.

  • Liquid latex can be found at any costume store.

  • If you are to play the bloody victim, don’t wear clothes you care about while being soaked with blood. These recipes may stain clothes.
