Start with a good cut. A good haircut is key to being able to spike your bangs. Tell your stylist that you want a flexible style that allows you to wear your bangs up or down depending on the occasion. For instance, some schools or offices don't allow spiked hair, so get a cut that allows you to be professional during the day, and spiked and funky after work.

Shampoo hair and blow dry. Starting at the roots, blow dry your bangs. Separate them into sections and hold each section straight up as you dry your hair. Starting at the roots "trains" your hair to stand up. Move up the section of hair until it is dry. Use a paddle or vent brush to hold the section of hair you are drying. Be sure to use it as sort of a brace wall for your bangs to stand up against. Do not blow the ends totally dry or it will cause split ends. Leave the tips a little damp.

After your hair is dry, get a pea-sized amount of hair gel and begin pulling it through your bangs, pulling hair straight up between your thumb and fingertips. Hair gel lives up to it's name, it is an incredibly sticky substance and literally glues your bangs into place. But don't worry about removal, at the end of the day it washes out easily with shampoo and water.

After you have spiked your bangs up with hair glue, solidify the spikes by spraying them with a firm hold hair spray. Use the back of your hand as a brace behind the spiked bangs and spritz some hairspray to lock your bangs into place. Again, there are many firm hold hair sprays available, but for my money nothing beats Paul Mitchell Freeze and Shine hairspray.
