How to Make Shell Spoons
Making shell spoons is an easy and creative craft you can make at home. This is a wonderful craft to do with children. It's also a good way to use those shells that you don't know what to do with from your last beach trip. Make a shell spoon, and you'll preserve those memories in a keepsake.
Things You'll Need
- Shells
- Glue (food grade)
- Popsicle sticks
- Duct tape
- Ribbon or some other material for wrapping around the spoon handle

Go to the beach or a craft store to gather your shells. Or use shells that you have from your last beach trip. Choose shells with bright colors and interesting designs. Remember to look for "spoon-shaped" shells.

Wrap the popsicle stick. Choose duct tape for a metallic look or use any piece of ribbon or fabric that you have to spare. If you prefer, add designs by drawing them directly onto the stick. Secure the fabric or ribbon with glue. Let the glue dry before moving on to Step 3.

Glue the spoon-shaped shell onto end of the popsicle stick.

After the glue has thoroughly dried, try your new shell spoon out at your next meal. Or, if you prefer, you may display the spoon as a keepsake, or give it as a gift.

Get some clam chowder or some other kind of soup and drink it up with your new spoon!

Tips & Warnings
Wash the shells very well before making the spoon to ensure that the glue sticks properly.
Try decorating the handle with little shells--just remember that you need to be able to hold onto the handle.
Be aware of local laws on collecting shells. In some places, it is not permitted to remove shells from the beach because they are protected for conservation purposes.
