Step 1
Commit to the amount of hours you are willing to work. Most Internet tutoring sites require a minimum of 5 hours of tutoring per week. If you are considering doing this job part time you may want to commit at least 20 hours. To determine how much time you can commit take a look at your current schedule. If you work as a teacher Monday through Friday and your classes end at 2:00 p.m. than you could go home and work online from 3:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. each weekday. That would give you 15 hours. Then you could make up the other 5 hours on Saturday or Sunday. Online tutoring is available 24 hours per day 7 days per week so you could even tutor in the wee hours of the morning if you wanted to.

Step 2
Make sure you meet the qualifications. Most sites will expect you to have a valid Social Security Number and a teaching degree. There are a few sites that do train individuals, but they are hard to get a job with. If you live outside of the US and Canada you will want to make sure they accept other countries before you go through the application process.

Step 3
Fill out the application. Each site is different, but a really good one is tutor.com. To fill out an application you can use the link provided for you at the end of this article. There is a big orange button that says apply now. Click that, register, and fill in the application. They do not accept resumes. They require all applicants to complete their applications by filling in the required fields. Make sure you fill out all fields to their specific instructions.

Step 4
Go through the training process. Most reputable online tutoring sites are going to have a sort of trial period. Obviously they don't want to offer someone a contract only to find out the tutor isn't being helpful to the students. This period usually lasts between 30 to 90 days. Make sure you are always on time when you are scheduled to work and that you work the hours you committed to.

Step 5
Get hired! Once you have passed you are good to go. Just make sure you keep up the good work and show up on time. Remember just because you are working from home doesn't mean you don't have to treat this like a real job. It is a real job and real students are relying on you for help.
