Designing and sewing a square pillow to be used on a bed, chair or other furniture is a fairly easy project. You can make your pillow as plain or as ornate as you'd like. For the purpose of this article, you will learn how to sew a simple square pillow with fringe.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Make a pattern. With a measuring tape and straight edge, draw the desired size square on a piece of cardboard. Cut out and use for pattern.

  2. Step 2

Place the cardboard square on top of the fabric and cut out 2 squares. When you cut, allow an extra 1 inch all around the square for a seam.

  3. Step 3

Measure and cut the fringe to your desired length. Secure the fringe with pins to the wrong side of 1 piece of fabric. Sew along edge of fringe to attach it to the fabric.

  4. Step 4

Use pins to attach the two pieces of fabric, right sides together. Sew the edges of your square, using a 1 inch seam. Leave an opening for either a pillow form or polyfill. Be sure that you do not sew any fringe into the seam.

  5. Step 5

Turn the pillow right sides out, and stuff with either the pillow form or polyfill.

  6. Step 6

Using a needle and thread, hand stitch the stuffing gap to close the pillow.
