How to Soften the Color of Newly Dyed Hair

In an attempt to keep the cost of beauty down, many women dye their own hair at home.
Sometimes, the color is not what was expected. Here's how to "take it back a few notches".

Turning a Bad Hair Day Around

Take action. The sooner you can do this the better the results will be. Mix 1/2 cup of your regular shampoo with 1/4 cup baking soda and mix well. This will be the only shampoo you will use. Mix 1/4 cup of your regular conditioner with 1 tablespoon baking soda and mix well. You will use a small amount of this after every other shampoo.

Wet your hair and shampoo with the special mix shampoo. Use plenty, massage your scalp and work up lots of lather and scrub your hair for 3 minutes. Rinse. Lather up again for another 2 minutes. Rinse and apply a small amount of conditioner; work it quickly through your hair and rinse out.

Dry and style your hair. Is it still too bright? Repeat Step 2 immediately, then dry again. You can repeat this as often as you need. Keep in mind that this will not take all of the color out; it dulls it by altering the ph level of your hair.
After you have the color adjusted, adding a few drops of vinegar to your rinse water will restore the shine to your hair.
