How to Plan a Trip to Chesapeake Beach Water Park

The town of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, is known for having perhaps the most convenient beach for residents of the DC metropolitan area to get to, without having to make the long drive across the Bay Bridge. In addition to the beach and boardwalk, Chesapeake Beach even boasts its own water park. This park is smaller and less hectic than most of the ones attached to major theme parks like Six Flags, but is quite a bit less expensive, too, and has more than enough water attractions to make for a fun day out for the entire family.

Instructions

    • 1

Check online for current admission rates and hours (see Resources below). The park typically opens for weekends beginning on Memorial Day weekend, then opens daily once Calvert County schools are closed for the summer in mid-June. Daily operations continue until the week before school is in session again, then in Mid-August the park reverts to weekends only until closing down for the season the weekend after Labor Day.

    • 2

Pack your swimsuit, sunscreen, sunglasses and towel. While Chesapeake Beach is definitely a beach town, is it also fairly small and you won't be able to pick up everything you need on any street corner.

    • 3

Bring a water bottle in your carry bag, but no other food or beverages. Concessions are available in the water park, but bottled water is the only outside beverage permitted.

    • 4

Try the tube slide. You can go down solo in a single tube, but double tubes are available if you'd rather slide with a buddy.

    • 5

Take the kids to the children's activity pool. They'll be sure to enjoy the slides shaped like a frog, clam shell, sea shell, and shipwreck, or they can climb aboard the floating alligator, sea serpent and giant crab. Adventurous kids can even tackle two speed slides of their own.

    • 6

Float down the lazy river on an inner tube, just taking it easy and enjoying the sun. You did remember to apply your SPF 30+, didn't you?

Tips & Warnings

  • Chesapeake Beach residents (with proof) can be admitted free on the Saturday after Labor Day and receive a free hot dog or hamburger from the snack bar as well.
