How to Control Excessive Foot Sweating

Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Your feet slide around in your shoes, your socks are wet at the end of the day and in severe cases your skin becomes excessively waterlogged (macerated) and appears white and rubbery. In may cases there is an associated odor that, along with the other symptoms, can be resolved by controlling excessive foot sweating.

Instructions

    • 1

Shower or bath your feet daily to keep your feet clean. If your feet sweat excessively you are more prone to skin infections. So by keeping you feet clean you can reduce the likelihood of this.

    • 2

Rinse your feet in cool water since excessive sweating is associated with heat.

    • 3

Avoid man-made materials in both your shoes and socks. Try to stick to cotton socks rather than nylon. Avoid vinyl as this will make your feet hot and cause them to sweat more.

    • 4

Wear open-toe shoes during the summer months. This will allow air to circulate and cool your feet down.

    • 5

Visit your pharmacist. There are many foot cooling sprays, deodorants and charcoal-based insoles that can alleviate the sweating.

    • 6

Avoid talc and foot powders. Although they absorb the excessive moisture, both the talc and the sweat tend to get trapped between your toes making you more prone to a fungal infection (tinea).

    • 7

Seek the advice from your podiatrist or physician if the problem persists or occurs in other parts of your body, such as your hands and underarms. This may indicate that there is medical condition that is causing the excessive sweating.
