One of the best features of a computer is that of the integrated media player. However, from time to time you will happen across audio files that are incompatible with your media player(s). However, there are ways of converting these audio files to the proper format. For example, if you are burning a CD and the audio files are all in the .wav format, they may not all fit on the CD. However, if you were to use a program to convert them to the smaller sized .MP3 format, they will most assuredly fit.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • WavePad
  • Computer
  • Audio file

Step1
Open the application. You will need to left-click on the application icon in order to open the program (see Resources below if you need to download WavePad).
Step2
Load the audio file. To open an audio file in WavePad, scroll to the “File” tab on the command bar; a submenu will open. Select “Load Audio Clip or CD” and left-click to browse to the desired file, then click “Okay” to open it in the program.
Step3
Save the audio file to the desired format. To save an audio file to a different format, click on the “File” tab on the command bar. Then left-click on “Save Project As”; a list of different audio formats will populate. Select the desired format and then click “Save”.
Step4
Test the audio file to assure it saved properly. Once you have saved the audio file, play it in your media player to assure that it saved properly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use the system defaults when converting files to MP3 format. Otherwise they may take up too much space.
  • Make a backup of the audio file so you can go back if you need to.
