How to Dress Like an LA Girl

The California girl image was made legendary by the Beach Boys and no other city epitomizes California glamour as much as Los Angeles. If you'd like to perfect that easy, breezy Los Angeles girl look, here are a few things you can try.

1. Dress like the weather is always warm. Thankfully, in Los Angeles, it usually is. Sun dresses, shorts, short skirts, halter tops, tank tops, all of these are the foundation of the California girl look. You have to look like you put little-to-no effort into getting dressed, but still look fabulous and well put-together.

2. Wear sandals and open-toed shoes. Since the weather is LA is usually great, LA girls get to show off one thing that many others don't--their feet. A good way to show off your feet is to wear cute sandals or other open-toed footwear. To make your feet look even better in these shoes, make sure your nails are always perfectly pedicured.

3. Get highlights in your hair. For years, the rage in California has been to have golden, sun-kissed blonde hair. It's not the LA girl style to just bleach the hair entirely blonde. The key is to get professional highlights from a salon (foil highlights work a lot better than highlights done using a cap) and make it look like your hair naturally lightened by a lot of sun exposure (lounging on the beach or walking along Venice Beach). Another good way to get sun-kissed hair is to use Sun-In spray (spray on your hair and just go outside and wait as your hair hits the sunlight).

4. Wear track suits. Juicy Couture is a great brand when it comes to track suits and athletic gear. The LA girl look is feminine, but with a slight athletic edge. The weather in LA is so good that you can jog outside and play sports almost all year round. Track suits in cutesy, feminine colors like baby pinks, yellows, light blues are perfect to achieve this look.

5. Get a tan--or fake one. Being tan is a massively important element to being an authentic LA girl--or just looking like one. Always make sure you wear sunblock with a high SPF. If you are afraid of skin damage as a result of being in the sun too much, then you can always use a spray tan (just make sure you spread evenly and apply in moderation so you don't end up looking orange).
