Don't just leave valuables on the sink top

When you lose a ring or other valuable down the sink, the only way to retrieve it is to get a wrench and start on the pipes underneath. If you don't want to go crawling under the sink, it is best to prevent it from falling in the first place. Use these tips to keep valuables safe from going down the drain.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a pretty container to place on your sink ledge. It should balance well so that it won't easily tip over. Place your valuables in this when you take them off in the bathroom.

  2. Step 2

Create a new routine for your jewelry by taking it off in a place other than the bathroom.

  3. Step 3

If you have to remove valuables in the bathroom, do so away from the sink or pull the stopper so that the sink is sealed.

  4. Step 4

Immediately put any valuables that you remove into your pocket if you must take them off away from home.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are trying to use water and/or soap to remove a stuck ring, make sure that the sink is plugged before you start.

on 8/26/2009 I've removed the pop up in my bathroom sink and replaced with a strainer available at the hardware store for a dollar. Every time I shave, I turn it up side down and flush out the gung that collects. The purpose of the strainer is to stop the larger items from going down and I end up with a late night job of pulling the trap.
