How to Socialize Aggressive Dogs
Dogs can be aggressive for a variety of reasons. Some are aggressive because they think they are the leader of your pack. Others are aggressive because they are trying to protect their territory. Some aggressive dogs lash out because of fear. Regardless of the reason, an aggressive dog is dangerous, creating a serious problem for your family. If you have an aggressive dog, you need to take steps to socialize him. Since 90 percent of dog bites occur to people who actually know the dog, you and your family are at risk because of your dog’s aggressive tendencies.

How to Socialize Aggressive Dogs
-
1
Take steps to protect the people who will be around the dog. Kennel him when needed, and keep him on a leash when in a new or potentially dangerous situation.
-
2
Expose your dog to different environments while he is under control. The more people, animals, and environments he can be exposed to, the more comfortable he will become with time, but you must establish control first.

4
Never encourage aggressive behavior. A dog that growls when you approach his food bowl is exhibiting aggressive behavior. Do not encourage this, but exert your authority in a positive way when he shows aggression.
-
5
Do not react strongly to aggressive behavior. Get it under control, but do not make a big deal out of it. Ignore the behavior if you can, making sure everyone involved in the situation is safe.
-
6
Make new situations positive. For instance, put your aggressive dog in a kennel and invite some new people to your home. Have the new people feed him treats through the kennel. This will show him that new people are a positive experience.

Consider taking a class with an instructor who is experienced in dealing with aggressive dogs. By having a professional help you socialize your dog, you can be more confident in the outcome. Remember to use a muzzle of your dog is going to be dangerous to other people or dogs in the class.
