Things You'll Need:
-
Step 1
Tie the scarf to cover the entire head. This can be done by folding the scarf into a triangle, creating two ends that you can use to tie a simple square knot; for longer belt-like scarves, folding is not necessary unless desired. The main point is having two distinct ends to use when tying and securing the scarf on your head. Hold the scarf by the two longest points on the long edge of the triangle you have created, placing to the center of your forehead. Next, bring the ends around behind your head and to the base of the back of your neck, and tie firmly. Remember, in order for the scarf to cover your hair entirely, it must be tied below your hairline.
-
Step 2
Wear the scarf as a hair accessory by fastening it around a ponytail, bun or other secure style. Scarves can be tied and used as hair accessories any time the style allows for a firm hold at which to tie the scarf. Look in the mirror and starting from the center, wind your scarf in a circular motion around your bun, or tying point. Continue until hair is wrapped as desired. Make sure there is room on the ends of the scarf so that it can be tied. Use a square knot to hold the scarf firmly in place.
-
Step 3
Wear and tie the scarf to be both an outfit and hair accessory. Typically, this requires leaving a portion of the scarf exposed, which allows the scarf to hang free and lightly swing after it has been tied. This way, scarves can be tied to accentuate the element of your hair or attire based on how you tie them. While looking in the mirror, experiment with the placement of the scarf on your head until you feel it most benefits your fashionable ensemble. For example, tying scarves higher on the head may bring out jewelry whereas fastening the scarf lower may make shoes or belt buckles more noticeable.
