The most important elements of decorating is the use of fabric and textures. When used together, these two elements bring character and style to any room. Any room can come alive when bold colored fabrics and natural textures are implemented into the design. Bedrooms are the ideal place to make use of these elements in order to create a specific theme.

How to Decorate a Bedroom with Fabric

1. 

   Starting with the walls, install a textured fabric on the bottom half of the walls. Faux leather or bamboo is good for this purpose. Using a staple gun, staple the fabric along the edges on the top, bottom and sides. Cover the staples with molding.

2. 

   Use solid colored curtains or drapery for the windows. Make sure that they are floor length. For the best result, use a medium to dark color. The fabric can be made of plain or weaved material.

   Layer the bed with fabric. Place a coverlet, bedspread or quilt across the whole surface of the bed. This should be the same color as the curtains. Place a striped fabric along the foot of the bed to bring detail to the area.

   Place a shiny fabric over the back of the chair using an shiny accent color instead of reupholstering, if there is a chair in the bedroom.

   Mix and match several pillows on the bed and the chair. The pillows should be covered with a textured material and a bold pattern. Materials such as faux fur, open weave and leather will complement the rest of the decor. Bold fabrics with geometric or floral designs will bring attention to those areas where they are placed. If needed, use a natural fiber area rug in a neutral color to bring the room together.
