How to Install an Acoustic Barrier

  1. Step 1

Determine your location. Before you begin a project such as this, it is important to determine exactly where you want the acoustic barrier. Locate the area of your home where the barrier will be functioning.

  2. Step 2

Make the proper measurements. You will want to measure the area that will be getting the acoustic barrier to make sure that the barrier itself will be big enough. Make sure you know exactly how big the barrier must be before you begin.

  3. Step 3

Fill the panel. The panel of the acoustic barrier must be filled with sound absorbent materials before it is put up in your home. Use insulation and other products to block sound in the panel.

  4. Step 4

Hold in the insulation. In order to hold the sound absorbing materials in place, you must weld a sheet of metal or make a plaster wall over the materials. This will keep the materials from falling out of the panel and defeating the purpose of the barrier.

  5. Step 5

Prime and paint the panel. After the acoustic barrier has been constructed, prime the wall and paint the wall to cover it from view. This way the acoustic barrier blends in as any other wall of the house.
