How to Make Candles From Soy Wax
Soy wax is an eco-friendly alternative to other types of wax. It is an affordable, natural and renewable product that burns longer and produces less soot than paraffin wax. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, candles made from paraffin wax emit carcinogens during the burning process. Making soy wax candles is an excellent way to dress up your home and protect your health, while doing your part to help the environment.

1
Locate and purchase the candlewick and soy wax flakes. Both items can be found in most craft stores, as well as online from numerous websites dedicated to candle making. Many major chain stores now carry soy flakes in their craft departments, as well.
-
2
Add a drop of superglue to the metal end of the candlewick and place it in the bottom center of the candle jar.
-
3
Hold the disc in place for 30 seconds or longer, depending on the instructions listed on the glue packaging. If you plan to reuse the jar once your candle has burned down, you can simply hold the candlewick in place without glue until the wax has dried.
-
4
Place a heat-resistant bowl over a pan of simmering water and slowly pour the soy flakes into the bowl. The bowl should remain over the pan until the soy flakes are completely melted.
-
5
Pour the liquid wax carefully into the candle jar while holding the candlewick taut until the wax has set.
-
6
Trim the candlewick to approximately 1 inch above the top of the candle using a pair of scissors.

Great directions. The best thing about soy wax now is that since the price of oil got so high (not a good thing), and the traditional wax is made from a petroleum base, soy is now less expensive than wax. Thank You ~Donna -
