DSL has paved the way for faster Internet speeds, quick download times and a whole new online experience such as video websites like YouTube. Getting DSL installed in your own home will change the way you use your computer. But before your Internet speeds dramatically increase, you must install the modem first, and the 2Wire DSL modem is easy to install.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Unpack the modem materials. You should have the modem, power cable, LAN cable, phone cable and two to three DSL filters.

  2. Step 2

Connect all the DSL filters to every phone line in the house. This is important because your calls can easily be disrupted if you do not have a DSL filter installed.

  3. Step 3

Plug the DSL filter directly into the phone outlet. Attach the phone cord into the other end of the DSL filter. For wall phones, you may want to purchase a special wall-mounted DSL filter.

  4. Step 4

Set the 2Wire modem at its desired spot in your computer area or desk. Attach the power cord to the back of the modem, but do not plug the modem in yet.

  5. Step 5

Attach a phone cord from an outlet into the back of the DSL modem. If you have a phone attached to this cord as well, you can use the double-slotted filter to plug in both phone cords.

  6. Step 6

Connect a LAN cable from the back of your computer into one of the four LAN ports on the modem. It does not matter which port you plug this into, but just use the first one because it is the easiest.

  7. Step 7

Plug the modem into the nearest outlet. Watch as the lights on the modem power up. Wait about 2 minutes for all of the lights to finish blinking and for the modem to stabilize your connection.

  8. Step 8

Test your modem’s connection by going to any website.

  9. Step 9

Test your telephone to make sure that all of the DSL filters have been properly installed. Listen for overbearing static.
